Who can install an LG air conditioner?
LG's split system page says "a professional engineer must install Split type air conditioners". Its Where to Buy page points you to a local LG Specialist Dealer for a no obligation quote.
The law sets the floor. Whoever fits it needs an ARC refrigerant licence, and in Victoria the install is plumbing work that needs Building and Plumbing Commission registration, with new wiring done by a licensed electrician. We're not an LG Specialist Dealer and don't sell LG. Licence-checked local installers who fit splits most days see the job, and the one who takes it is the only one who gets your contact details.
What does LG's warranty cover, by type?
| High wall split | Cassette, ducted, Multi F and FDX | Window, portable, Multi V | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Parts and labour | 5 years | 5 years | 2 years |
| Extra compressor cover | 5 more years, parts only | Not stated in LG's terms | Not stated in LG's terms |
What do the extra compressor years actually include?
LG's terms call the second 5 years on a high wall compressor a limited warranty that's parts only. It doesn't include labour or refrigerant. If the compressor fails in that window, the part may be covered, but fitting it and recharging the system aren't.
That's worth knowing if you're weighing up a repair against a new unit down the track. Our repair or replace tool walks through it.
What LG's warranty leaves out
- "Any problems or performance issues arising out of faulty or incorrect installation".
- Extra costs to reach a unit in a restricted or unsafe spot, so where the outdoor unit goes matters for every future service.
- Damage to external surfaces or coils from normal weathering or corrosive air. LG lists an "Anti Corrosion Gold Fin" coating on one window wall model, the W05TCA, but we found no coastal or distance-from-the-sea guidance on the LG pages we read.
Your jobs, and the installer's
You can
- Find the manual by model number on LG's Australian support site.
- Clean the filters as that manual says.
- Keep the outdoor unit clear so a technician can reach it easily.
- File the receipt with both model numbers on it.
Leave to a licensed installer
- The whole install, from refrigerant pipework to the electrical connection.
- Choosing a mounting spot that's safe to service.
- A compressor replacement, which needs a full RAC01 licence holder because it involves the refrigerant.
On an LG quote, look for
- Model numbers for both units, and whether it's a high wall with the extra compressor cover.
- Where the outdoor unit goes, and how it'll be reached for servicing.
- Who does the electrical work, and which certificates you'll get.
- The installer's RTA number, which the ARC requires on quotes.
- The installer's own workmanship warranty, since LG excludes installation faults.
What we'd do
If we were buying an LG
We'd forget the idea of having it delivered and fitted like a fridge. Line up a licensed split installer first, agree on an outdoor spot that's easy and safe to reach, and keep both model numbers with the receipt. That last part matters if the compressor ever needs those extra years.
