What Bonaire makes
Bonaire's cooling range covers ducted reverse cycle, split systems, multi-split, window wall, portable and add-on cooling, plus ducted, portable and commercial evaporative coolers. For heating it lists ducted gas, ducted electric (reverse cycle), oil column and electric panel heaters, outdoor heaters and electric fireplaces.
Bonaire is a brand of Climate Technologies Pty Ltd, which the Australian Business Register lists in Victoria under the business name Bonaire Air Conditioning. Bonaire says it has offered comfort since 1954 and that its products are "Built specifically for Australia's unique conditions", and it makes no Australian made claim on its home page. We don't sell Bonaire products and we're not one of its dealers.
Three Bonaire systems, three different jobs
| Ducted gas heating | Ducted reverse cycle | Evaporative cooling | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heats the home | Yes | Yes | No |
| Cools the home | Only with add-on cooling | Yes | Yes, though less well on humid days |
| Marked for VEU on Bonaire's site | No | Yes | No |
Which one suits your home?
The ACT Government says a gas system heats a home quickly, while a reverse cycle system has much lower running costs. Evaporative coolers, it says, work reasonably well in hot, dry weather, are less effective when it's humid, and need some windows or doors left slightly open.
So the answer turns on your winters, your summers and whether you already have gas and ducts. Our guides to reverse cycle or gas heating and evaporative or refrigerated cooling go through it. A heating and cooling specialist who fits all three types can tell you which suits your house.
What Bonaire's VEU label does and doesn't mean
Bonaire's menu marks its ducted air conditioners, split systems and ducted electric heating as "VEU Approved", meaning the Victorian Energy Upgrades program. That's a label on a product, not a promise about your job.
VEU discounts are created by accredited providers, the program is voluntary, and it's delivered by private businesses, not the Victorian Government. Its air conditioner categories cover systems that both heat and cool, which fits where Bonaire puts the label: on its reverse cycle products, not its gas heaters or evaporative coolers.
From 30 September 2026, ducted jobs carry a higher minimum co-payment, so there's always something to pay. Our VEU guide explains how it works, and your installer can tell you whether they're accredited.
Bonaire's warranty: register, then extend
Bonaire's warranty page has two buttons, Register product and Extend Warranty. The extension adds two years if you apply within 6 months of installation, and Bonaire then issues a certificate showing the new expiry date.
There's a catch: servicing by technicians who aren't employed or authorised by Bonaire isn't accepted for the extension. The page we read covers the extension, not the base warranty term, so check the warranty card for the exact model you're quoted.
If you choose Bonaire ducted gas heating
Energy Safe Victoria says any gas heater can spill carbon monoxide, old or new, and to have it serviced at least once every two years by a qualified gasfitter. If you suspect carbon monoxide, leave the house and get into fresh air, turn off gas appliances, open windows and doors, and call 000 in an emergency. After that, the Bonaire stays switched off until a qualified gasfitter has checked it for carbon monoxide spillage.
Your part, and the installer's
You can
- Register the product on Bonaire's warranty page.
- Apply for the two-year extension well inside the 6 month window.
- Download manuals from Bonaire's documents page, and book service or warranty visits through its book-service page.
Leave to a licensed installer
- Gas fitting, by a licensed gasfitter.
- Refrigerant pipework and electrical work on reverse cycle and split systems.
- Servicing for the extension, by a technician Bonaire employs or authorises.
What we'd do
Where we'd start
Settle the type of system first, with a specialist who fits gas, reverse cycle and evaporative and has no reason to push one. If it ends up a Bonaire, register it straight away, lodge the extension in the first few weeks rather than the last few, and use a Bonaire-authorised technician for servicing so the extra two years hold.
