Kelvinator air conditioning and heatingStill sold, mostly as box units for one room.

Yes, Kelvinator air conditioners are still sold in Australia. Electrolux Home Products controls the brand here, and Kelvinator's site lists 12 window/wall units and 1 split system, each designed for a single room. We're not a Kelvinator dealer and don't sell its units. Everything below comes from Kelvinator itself or the government's Energy Rating register.

Who's behind Kelvinator?

Electrolux. Kelvinator's warranty documents name Electrolux Home Products Pty Ltd, of Mascot NSW, as the company that controls the brand here, and its About page lists Kelvinator alongside Electrolux, Westinghouse and others.

Kelvinator's FAQ says it can't recommend an installer and points you back to the dealer. So work out who'll fit it before you buy, not once it's sitting in the garage.

What's in the Kelvinator range?

Mostly window/wall units: 12 of them, from 1.6 kW to 6.0 kW of cooling. Some are reverse cycle and some only cool, so if you want winter warmth, check the model says reverse cycle.

The one split is the KSD35HWH, a reverse cycle model rated at 3.5 kW cooling and 4.0 kW heating, which runs from the Kelvinator Home Comfort app.

Kelvinator describes a window/wall unit as one self-contained box that's relatively easy to fit through a wall, though it can be a little louder than a split because the compressor sits inside. Every Kelvinator is designed for one room and can't heat or cool a whole house. For that, look at multi-split systems or ducted air conditioning.

Offered a Kelvinator split? Check this first

The Energy Rating register's data of 28 October 2026 lists 10 approved Kelvinator registrations, all window/wall units. It has no Kelvinator split, and no entry for the KSD35HWH under any brand.

That doesn't tell you why. If someone offers you that split, ask whether it's new stock and look up its model number on the Energy Rating website before you commit.

How long is a Kelvinator covered, and from when?

Kelvinator's split and window/wall warranty documents both give 60 months, which is 5 years, from the date of original purchase, for new units bought and used in Australia or New Zealand.

Electrolux or its authorised service centre decides whether to repair or replace. Its promise to do that at no extra charge applies when the unit is readily accessible for service without special equipment, so think about access before you pick a spot.

The documents online are dated May 2017 and March 2018, and Kelvinator says the warranty statements come with the appliance. Read the one in your box, because that's the one that applies.

What the Kelvinator warranty asks of you

  • For the split, evidence it was installed by a licensed air conditioner installer, following the installation manual. For a window/wall unit, evidence it was installed following the manual.
  • A unit rated correctly for the room's size and thermal characteristics. Kelvinator's FAQ says a wrongly sized unit isn't covered.
  • Regular maintenance as the user manual sets out.
  • No damage from poor servicing or repairs by anyone outside Electrolux's authorised repairers and service centres. That's excluded.
  • Domestic use, and proof of purchase for any claim.

Living near the coast

Neither warranty document mentions salt air or coastal sites. The product pages mention a "gold shield" anti-corrosion treatment, but that's a feature, not a warranty promise. Near the sea, ask the installer where the unit should sit and how to care for it, and see our coastal homes guide.

Jobs for you, jobs for a licensed installer

You can

  • Check and clean the filters regularly, as your manual says.
  • Keep the proof of purchase with the warranty document, plus the model and serial number.
  • Get a rough size from the size calculator before anyone quotes.

Leave to a licensed installer

  • Working out the heat load and the right size for the room.
  • Fitting the split, which needs an ARC refrigerant handling licence, pre-charged or not.
  • Any new circuit or wiring, which is for a licensed electrician.

What we'd do

Our take

If you're replacing an old box unit and a new Kelvinator fits the opening, a window/wall model sized for that room is a simple swap. We'd get the sizing done properly first, since Kelvinator won't cover a wrongly sized unit, and keep the invoice with the warranty document from the box. If more than one room needs heating and cooling, we'd skip the brand question and look at a multi-split or ducted system. Send us the job and licence-checked installers near you who do this work will see it. Only the one who takes it gets your contact details.
