What does TCL sell here?
TCL's Australian site lists split wall mounted air conditioners (VoxIN, BreezeIN 2.0 and FRESH AIR), the Freematch multi split, High Static ducted systems and portable air conditioners. Its extension page names BreezeIN, BreezeIN Eco, Freematch and High Static ducted units, so check your exact model is on TCL's eligible list before counting on 7 years.
We're not a TCL retailer and we don't sell air conditioners. We match your install with one licence-checked installer near you.
A TCL install, from shop to claim
Buy from a retailer TCL authorises
TCL's warranty excludes products that weren't, and it "applies only if the Product is designed and manufactured for use in Australia". An overseas model bought online can miss out.
Use licensed trades
TCL excludes faults from improper set up, installation or positioning, "such as by a non-licensed plumber or electrician". Handling the refrigerant needs an ARC licence as well.
Collect the certificate on the day
To claim, TCL asks for proof of purchase, the model and serial numbers, and "Proof of installation certificate by a licenced plumber and/ or electrician".
Lodge the extension within 30 days
TCL's ducted page promotes a 7-year warranty, but that depends on the extension claim. Miss the window and you're on the standard 5 years.
What TCL's terms exclude
- Damage from "rust, corrosion, salt build-up or inadequate ventilation". A cramped outdoor spot is a risk, and TCL gives no distance-from-the-sea rule.
- Attendance costs in some cases: TCL may seek reimbursement if the unit is more than 30 km from an authorised repairer or TCL authorised retailer. Worth asking about if you're regional.
- Commercial use, where the warranty drops to 12 months.
- Products not bought from a TCL authorised retailer.
What you can do, and what you can't
You can
- Lodge TCL's extension claim within 30 days.
- Keep proof of purchase, model number and serial number together.
- Leave space around the outdoor unit so air can move.
- Clean the filters as the manual says.
Leave to a licensed installer
- Positioning the outdoor unit with proper ventilation.
- Refrigerant pipework and commissioning.
- The plumbing and electrical certificate TCL asks for at claim time.
- Fault finding and warranty repairs.
What a TCL quote should include
- The exact model, so you can check it against TCL's 7 year list.
- The licence details of whoever does the plumbing and electrical work.
- A written promise of the installation certificate on completion.
- Where the outdoor unit goes, with room to breathe.
- The installer's RTA number, which the ARC requires on quotes.
What we'd do
If it were our home
We'd get the certificate and both serial numbers from the installer before they drive away, and lodge TCL's extension that night. Thirty days goes quickly. If you're well out of town, we'd ask the retailer where the nearest authorised repairer is before buying. And we'd want a split and ducted specialist who knows exactly what paperwork TCL will ask for.
