Who's behind Gree in Australia
Gree's Australian site says Beijer Ref Australia is the distributor for Gree across Australasia and "holds the warranty for all Gree products" it sells here. Gree says its range is sold Australia-wide through "an authorised and knowledgeable dealer network", listed in a Where to Buy locator.
Its warranty page also says "We hold a full range of spare parts locally for all the models we distribute." We aren't part of Gree's network and don't sell Gree units.
What Gree makes
For homes, Gree lists hi-wall split systems, ducted systems, multi split, floor standing and mini floor mount units, window and wall units, zone control and a slimline RV unit. It also sells ceiling cassette and VRF systems for commercial jobs, and an inverter hot water heat pump.
Keeping a Gree warranty intact
Have it installed by a qualified tradesperson
The card says the warranty is void if the unit "is not installed by a suitably qualified trades person". Window-wall and portable units are the exception.
Register it on install day
Gree's online form asks for the install date, the purchase date, who installed it, and the model and serial numbers. No deadline is stated, but those details are easiest to gather while the installer is still there.
Book a service at least every 12 months
Regular maintenance by a suitably qualified tradesperson, at intervals of no more than 12 months, is a condition of cover. Keep every service invoice as proof.
Leave it where it was first fitted
Re-installing it at another location voids the warranty, and so does fitting it in a moveable dwelling such as a boat, caravan or portable building.
How long Gree's cover lasts
The card (version V11, March 2025) gives 6 years parts and labour from the date of purchase on hi-wall, console, multi head, ducted and cassette air conditioners. Window-wall units get 2 years, or 6 years in residential use, and portables get 2 years.
It covers products bought from Beijer Ref Australia, Kirby, ACD Trade or an authorised agent, for the original owner, operated in Australia. Defects caused by corrosive atmospheric conditions are excluded, which matters close to the sea.
Out of town? Read the travel clause
Gree's card doesn't cover a repairer's travel where the unit is more than 20 km from the nearest branch or authorised repairer. In a regional town, ask your installer where the nearest Gree repairer is before you commit.
One more check if you're fitting out a caravan: Gree lists a slimline RV unit, while its card's general terms void cover in moveable dwellings. Ask the seller how the warranty applies to that unit before you buy.
Your jobs, and the installer's
You can
- Clean the filters the way the owner's manual describes. Gree publishes owner manuals on each product page at greeac.com.au.
- Keep the registration confirmation and every yearly service invoice in one folder.
- Keep the outdoor unit clear of plants and anything stored against it.
Leave to a licensed installer
- The yearly maintenance visit that keeps the warranty alive.
- The install, including refrigerant pipework and electrics.
- Any repair. Leave the covers on and call a qualified tradesperson.
What we'd do
Where we'd start
Before signing for a Gree, we'd ask the installer whether they'll come back each year to service it, and put the first visit in the diary. We'd register it with the install details the day it goes in. And outside the big cities, we'd find out where the nearest Gree repairer is, because beyond 20 km the card leaves their travel to you. A split specialist with a regular service round suits this brand well.
