Who actually stands behind a Haier?
Haier's Australian website terms name Fisher & Paykel Australia as the company running the site and as "the distributor of Haier in Australia". The warranty booklet adds a third name. Fisher & Paykel Appliances Ltd, a New Zealand company and the importer of Haier air conditioners, is the one giving the warranty.
Haier's Where to Buy page sends its other appliances to online retailers, but air conditioning goes to a Haier Home quote page, which says an "expert installer partner" will contact you.
We're not a Haier dealer and don't sell its units. This is what Haier's own documents say, put plainly.
What's in the Haier range?
For homes, Haier Home lists wall mounted split systems, multi split systems, ducted systems in High Static and Low Profile versions, and floor console units. Ceiling cassettes, MRV (VRF) systems and chillers sit on the commercial side.
How long is a Haier covered?
Haier's booklet gives 5 years from purchase on products under 25 kW of cooling capacity, 2 years on anything 25 kW or bigger, and 18 months on mining sites. Home wall splits sit well under that line, and Haier Home's split pages list the cover as "Parts and labour: 5 years".
What can void a Haier warranty?
- An incorrect install, or one done by someone who isn't qualified.
- No compliance certificates where local electrical and plumbing rules require them.
- Re-installing the unit away from its original location.
- Transportable, mobile or marine installs.
- Weathering, which the booklet says includes salt and other corrosive residue. That matters on the coast.
How do I make a Haier claim simple?
Keep the original proof of purchase
Haier's booklet asks for it with every claim. File the tax invoice inside the manual so it's still there in year four.
Collect the compliance certificates on install day
In Victoria that means an Energy Safe Victoria Certificate of Electrical Safety plus a plumbing compliance certificate. Ask what your state's equivalent is.
Keep a record of every service
Haier wants records of all service and maintenance when you claim. A folder of dated service invoices does the job.
Know who to contact
Haier says you can go to the installer or original retailer, Haier Customer Care, or lodge a claim online. Guides are at haier.com.au/resources.
What's yours to do, and what needs a licence
You can
- Clean the filters the way your Haier user guide describes.
- Keep leaves, bins and garden growth away from the outdoor unit.
- Check the remote's mode and batteries before you report a fault.
Leave to a licensed installer
- The install, including the refrigerant pipework, which needs an ARC licence.
- The electrical connection and the certificates that go with it.
- Moving the unit later, which the warranty treats differently from the first install.
What a Haier quote should show
- The exact Haier model of each indoor and outdoor unit, and its capacity in kW.
- Who does the electrical and plumbing work, and which certificates you'll receive.
- The installer's Refrigerant Trading Authorisation number, which the ARC requires on quotes.
- Where the outdoor unit will sit and, near the sea, what protection is planned.
What we'd do
If it were our home
We'd treat the paperwork as part of the unit: certificates on the day, the invoice kept with the manual, and regular servicing on record in case the 5 years is ever tested. We'd want a split specialist who fits units every week and knows which certificates your state expects. Near the beach, settle the outdoor unit's spot before it's mounted, because Haier's booklet won't cover salt.
