Who makes Hitachi air conditioners now?
Hitachi announced on 1 August 2025 that it had transferred all its shares in the Johnson Controls-Hitachi air conditioning joint venture to Robert Bosch GmbH, under a brand licence agreement. Hitachi's Australian site now says its Cooling & Heating products "are manufactured and sold by Bosch Home Comfort Group".
Temperzone is the Australian distributor. Hitachi's FAQ says faults covered by warranty are fixed by the Temperzone Service Centre, with no charge for labour or materials. We aren't part of that network and don't sell Hitachi units.
Which Hitachi models are cooling only?
Hitachi lists airHome 400, 500 and 600 wall splits, the airCore 700 ducted system, and multi-room options: Premium Ducted Zone Control, the RAM multi-split and airHome Multi-Pro. The airHome 500 is listed as cooling only. If you need winter heating from the unit, make sure that isn't the model on your quote.
Thinking about zoning a whole house? Our page on zoning and controllers explains how it works.
How long is a Hitachi covered?
Hitachi's FAQ lists 6 years parts and labour for airHome 400, 500 and 600 wall splits, airCore 700 ducted, cassette and ceiling suspended systems, and RAM multi-splits sold from 1 October 2024. Temperzone's June 2026 warranty document puts Hitachi floor mounted splits (RAF) at 5 years parts and labour.
Temperzone says the term begins on the date of original purchase (invoice) from Temperzone Australia, so ask your installer which date that is for your unit. And if anyone offers an extended Hitachi warranty, ask whose it is. Hitachi's FAQ says "Extended warranty for Hitachi Cooling and Heating equipment is not offered in Australia."
What keeps a Hitachi warranty valid?
- Regular servicing by an appropriate ARC licensed installer. Temperzone asks owners to maintain the unit annually.
- Clean filters. Hitachi excludes damage caused by filter neglect.
- A correct install and commissioning, since damage from getting either wrong is excluded.
- Servicing only by qualified people. Hitachi excludes damage from anyone else's work.
- A sensible spot. Use in a corrosive atmosphere is excluded, so talk placement through if you're near the sea.
Between services, and at the service
You can
- Clean the filters on the schedule in your user manual, from Hitachi's Resources hub at hitachiaircon.com/au/resources.
- Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves and garden growth.
- File every service invoice with the purchase invoice.
Leave to a licensed installer
- The yearly service, by an ARC licensed technician.
- Anything touching the refrigerant. That needs a full RAC01 licence holder, because the restricted RSS03 licence doesn't allow refrigerant service work.
- Warranty repairs, which go through Temperzone.
What to ask a Hitachi installer
- Is this model heating and cooling, or the cooling-only airHome 500?
- What date will my warranty run from?
- Who will do the yearly service, and what licence do they hold?
- Are you on Hitachi's dealer and installer list for my city?
What we'd do
What we'd do
Treat the yearly service as part of owning a Hitachi. We'd book it with a technician who services split and ducted systems all year round, keep every invoice, and clean the filters in between. That paper trail is exactly what Hitachi's warranty is looking for if something fails in year five.
