Dural at a glance
Semi-rural, across two councils
Dural is split between Hornsby Shire and The Hills Shire and is part of the Hills District. On the ABCB's climate zone map, Hornsby is zone 5 and The Hills zone 6.
Orchard country
The Dictionary of Sydney says Dural was an important fruit-growing district by the end of the nineteenth century, and fruit growing and timber-getting are still its main primary industries.
Large houses
80.3% of occupied homes were separate houses in 2021, 9.2% semis or townhouses and 8.0% flats.
Owners
44.2% of homes were owned outright and 36.8% with a mortgage. Only 14.6% were rented.
What a Dural job usually involves
Ducted reverse cycle with zones. In a four or five bedroom house, ducted heats and cools every room from one outdoor unit. Zone bedrooms apart from living areas, and remember ActronAir's limits: zones differ by at most 4 degrees and the system heats or cools, not both at once.
Power and ducts. The ACT Government guide says a ducted or multi-head system in a large house may need 3-phase power, and recommends duct insulation of at least R1.5. Both belong on the quote.
Splits for outlying rooms. A granny flat, studio or rumpus room some way from the main house is often better served by its own split than by a long duct run.
What we'd do
If it were our Dural home
We'd ask for a room-by-room heat load, the zone plan and the power question answered in writing, and we'd compare two or three ducted designs rather than two prices. Licence-checked installers who design ducted systems for big Hills District houses can see your job; the one who takes it is the only one who gets your details. If no one who covers Dural takes it within 48 hours, installers elsewhere in NSW may see it too.
